Being human, and letting customers know that we are, is one of the most important modern marketing tools a company can add to its belt. It is so easy in today’s almost completely digital age to be overwhelmed at some point by the shear amount of time we are expected to spend using technology, to dedicate to the internet, and to be building new and advanced futuristic tools. But, the bottom line is, we don’t want to spend all of our time online, we want to be human, and we want to know others are human too.
Digital Strategist Joanne Tombrakos compiled a list of things to remember in trying to keep humanity at the forefront of your marketing strategy.
First, remember that it’s easier to keep a customer than to get a new one. This means that amidst all your social media, email, and website appeals to attract new customers, keep in mind what your current customers are telling you. Don’t ignore their feedback, and react in real time whenever you can. Instead of directing your calls to an automated machine, make sure somebody who cares about your company and your customers is answering the phone. When customers feel cared about and like their voices are being heard, they’re happy to stick around and encourage their friends to do the same.
Next, remember that technology was created to serve humans, not the other way around. Technology should serve as a tool that makes it easier to connect with like-minded professionals, invested customers, and passionate co-workers, not something that has totally taken over your life and replaced all your human-to-human interactions. If it seems like technology is ruling your life or your business, take a step back and examine the quality of your interactions, and consider how improving that quality could improve your business and well being.
Finally, remember that technology means nothing without the intersection of humanity. That is, without the human factor technology is utterly useless. Humans crave attention from and interaction with one another. Rather than using technology to talk at your customers, use your manpower to keep clients engaged and to listen and respond to what they are saying.
The bottom line is that interaction is exciting and human-to-human communication is what drives us to continue improving and evolving on both a personal and professional level. Don’t remove technology from your business, but use it strategically to boost your communication and make it more meaningful and personal. For more internet marketing news, [Click Here].
